When you get into this world of tactics, it's constantly evolving. We are developing our weapon systems, but the enemy gets a vote, is something that we say, and they're evolving their weapon systems as well. Their threat systems that are designed to counter our capabilities, for example, surface-to-air missiles, they are more sophisticated and they are more complex than they were even just 10 years ago. So it's incumbent upon us to continue to invest in the survivability equipment of the AH-1Z and UH-1Y. H-1s will continue to remain relevant, lethal, and survivable by the SPINE program and the other Series A capabilities, that being digital interoperability, inter-craft survivability equipment. SPINE allows the Marines to continue to fly H-1 well into the future while they're transitioning to the next and even better platform.

SPINE

Structural and Power Improvements for NextGen Effects (SPINE) provides a significant electrical upgrade to H-1s serving as the foundation to Series A capability. Sensors, launchers, and weapons that will be powered and integrated via the SPINE architecture will enable increased interoperability.
